Traditionally, Karate has always been a family affair. In the early days in Japan, a father would train and pass down his karate knowledge to his children. In doing so, this would help to maintain the family style, otherwise known as "Ryu Ha". Over the years, many Karate styles have been developed this way. Karate becomes a common ground for every family member involved. Together, you work towards common goals; you work on improving yourself in every way. At Don Warrener's Martial Arts Academy in Brantford, the tradition continues. We pride ourselves on the fact that our school is very family-oriented. Sensei David Turkoski, head Instructor, is also passing along his karate knowledge to not only his two sons, Adam and Sean but to his wife, Geraldine as well. Many of our students have one or both of their parents training at our school, as well. When you train together, you become each other's cheering section, you push each other to do and be your best – both in the dojo and outside of the dojo. Karate then becomes something fun that the whole family can enjoy. Learning together is fun and it can bring family members closer together. We encourage all parents and siblings to come and see how much the martial arts can benefit your life. You never know, you may just get hooked too!

Focus on family
With my father as my Sensei it had many benefits. He raised the bar with my training, as he knew what I was capable of, both physically and mentally. As both my father and my Sensei, he demanded the absolute best out of both my sister and I and wouldn't settle for less. This has been a way of life for him. In turn, it was by his example that we learned how to utilize this way of life for ourselves in everything we do. Some of our karate families: |
